"What Happens If I Miss a Day with Mydent Aligners?"

Aligners like Mydent's are designed to apply gentle, continuous pressure on your teeth to move them slowly and safely.
To achieve this, you must wear them for 20–22 hours a day, every day.
Reference: Kravitz et al. (2009) emphasized that aligner efficacy is directly tied to daily wear duration and patient compliance.

❗ Missing One Day: What to Expect
If you forget to wear your aligners for just one day, here’s what might happen:
You might feel tightness or pressure when you put them back in
Your teeth may start to shift slightly back to their original positions
You may need to wear that aligner for an extra day or two before switching to the next one
🔄 Don’t move to the next aligner early after missing a day—always check the fit and consult your orthodontist if unsure.
⚠️ Missing More Than One Day: The Risks Increase
If you skip multiple days:
Aligners may not fit properly anymore
Tooth movement becomes unpredictable
You risk delaying your treatment or repeating aligners
Your teeth may relapse, undoing previous progress
Reference: Phan & Ling (2007) noted that teeth can shift back quickly, especially early in treatment, if consistent pressure is not maintained.

🛠️ What To Do If You Miss a Day (or More)
Don’t Panic – One missed day won’t ruin your progress if you act fast
Resume Wearing Aligners Immediately – As soon as you remember
Check the Fit – If the aligner feels too tight, use chewies and wear longer
Add Extra Days – Wear the tray a day or two longer before switching
Contact Mydent – If your aligners no longer fit, or you've missed several days, our team can guide your next steps or issue a replacement
🧠 Why Consistency Matters
Tooth movement is a biological process. The pressure from aligners stimulates the bone and ligaments around the tooth to remodel. But this only happens when that pressure is steady and sustained.
Reference: Boyd RL (2008) explains that inconsistent aligner wear disrupts tooth movement and can extend total treatment time.
